CHARLOTTE HAS a variety of options for parents considering enrolling their children in private schools. From sports teams to 3-D technology to programs for students with special needs, each institution has its own strengths. We hope this guide provides information that helps your family make an informed decision.

How We Gathered the Data:
Charlotte-area private schools were sent a link to an online survey. We filled information gaps with 2015-16 data found on schools’ websites. If 2015-16 school-year information was not provided, it is because the school declined to submit the required information or it was not available on the school’s website. Many schools have different ways of reporting SAT or ACT scores. Rather than ask everyone to conform to a certain standard, we printed the scores as given. Survey submissions were edited for brevity, clarity and space. *Tuition is annual unless otherwise noted.

Charlotte Latin School

Map9502 Providence Road
Charlotte, NC

Charlotte Latin is an accredited, independent, coeducational, non-secretarian, college-prepatory, day school serving more than 1,400 students in transitional kindergarten through twelfth grade on a 128-acre campus in southeast Charlotte. Founded in 1970, Latin’s mission is to encourage individual development and civility by inspiring student to learn, to serve other, and to pursue growth-promoting opportunities. The school community, including students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff, embraces Latin’s mission, core values, and Honor Code.

Traditional by design yet innovative in implementation, Charlotte Latin promotes a strong sense of community, a challenging yet nurturing environment, and a commitment to academic excellence. Latin is a school that values teaching and celebrates learning, which is realized in 100 percent of graduates being accepted to college, including some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning.

Students are presented with many opportunities to explore and develop their interests, including leadership development and co-curricular options and a TK–12 community service program that fosters a lifelong commitment to service through age-appropriate activities. Students also are encouraged to explore their world and are supported in this endeavor through the CLS Sister School and Study Abroad Program.

At Latin, parents are welcome partners in their children’s school lives. Many participate in volunteer organizations, such as the Board of Trustees or Parents’ Council. They are often on campus, cheering athletic teams or sharing lunch with a child in Founders’ Hall. In addition, more than 3,800 alumni remain connected to their alma mater through the active CLS Alumni Association.

Charlotte Latin School is accredited by and is a member of the National, Southern, and North Carolina Associations of Independent Schools and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. Latin is the youngest School in America to receive a Cum Laude Chapter and has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence three times by the U.S. Department of Education.
