CHARLOTTE HAS a variety of options for parents considering enrolling their children in private schools. From sports teams to 3-D technology to programs for students with special needs, each institution has its own strengths. We hope this guide provides information that helps your family make an informed decision.

How We Gathered the Data:
Charlotte-area private schools were sent a link to an online survey. We filled information gaps with 2015-16 data found on schools’ websites. If 2015-16 school-year information was not provided, it is because the school declined to submit the required information or it was not available on the school’s website. Many schools have different ways of reporting SAT or ACT scores. Rather than ask everyone to conform to a certain standard, we printed the scores as given. Survey submissions were edited for brevity, clarity and space. *Tuition is annual unless otherwise noted.

Matthews, NC

Description:

At Covenant Day School, students thrive in a nurturing environment where both academic excellence and spiritual training are blended without compromise. Established in 1989, Covenant Day is a Christ-centered, college preparatory school in Matthews, N.C. that serves more than 840 students in grades TK-12. A faculty of godly educators seek to ignite a hunger for lifelong learning in their students, helping them to recognize the gifts and skills that God has specifically provided for their lives.
In addition to a rigorous program for college preparation, students benefit from a biblical worldview, small classes, community involvement, competitive sports, and quality fine arts. Covenant Day students have received prestigious scholarships and have attended some of the nation’s leading colleges and universities.
Additionally, students are engaged in lessons and activities that foster restoration of broken aspects of nature and humanity and develop problem-solving skills to support sustainable environments and communities. Restoration and sustainability projects include aquaponics, the Monarch Butterfly Project, and ContainIt. Through ContainIt, Covenant Day’s newest initiative, students are re-purposing used shipping containers to serve as living space for Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
