CHARLOTTE HAS a variety of options for parents considering enrolling their children in private schools. From sports teams to 3-D technology to programs for students with special needs, each institution has its own strengths. We hope this guide provides information that helps your family make an informed decision.

How We Gathered the Data:
Charlotte-area private schools were sent a link to an online survey. We filled information gaps with 2016-17 data found on schools’ websites. If 2016-17 school-year information was not provided, it is because the school declined to submit the required information or it was not available on the school’s website. Many schools have different ways of reporting SAT or ACT scores. Rather than ask everyone to conform to a certain standard, we printed the scores as given. Survey submissions were edited for brevity, clarity and space. *Tuition is annual unless otherwise noted.

2017 Guide to Private Schools

Hargrave Military Academy

Map200 Military Drive
Chatham, VA

Hargrave is nationally and internationally recognized as a premier college preparatory boarding school, serving boys Grade 7-Postgraduate. Hargrave’s 21st–century academic environment with advanced technology in the classrooms, STEM and CIS (Center for Integrated Studies) programs, learning center, mega room, Colin Powell Center for Leadership and Ethics, and unique how–to study program, combined with an aggressive athletics program, spiritual growth, and character development, serve as the foundation for Hargrave’s success and the success of our cadets. Hargrave is a member of and accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, and Nationally accredited by AdvancED. Hargrave is the only Virginia school named a National School of Character in 2016. Our program has given cadets options from small private liberal arts colleges to state institutions to highly selective colleges and U.S. Service Academies. Hargrave is more than a day and boarding school; we offer an environment with few distractions where young men can focus and celebrate their successes. Hargrave is a community of educators, and professionals who believe that academic excellence is much more than good grades. We encourage parents to discover more about Hargrave by attending a Saturday Open House.
