Our recipe originated around 1840, when the McCreerys migrated to the United States from the northern part of Ireland, known as Ulster. After settling in the Appalachian Mountains, they began distilling their own liquor. In 2008, the recipe was resurrected and named "McCreery Mud." It originally was brewed at home and given to family and friends. Unlike the other coffee liqueurs on the market today, we are 100-percent American-made. We are brewed in Lenoir, N.C., through Carolina Distillery and are proud to say we are a one-of-a-kind, natural spirit-based liqueur.

No, we aren’t talking about Star Wars. McCreery Mud has made a huge impact in the world of coffee liquor since its launch. 4. Taste the cookie with a kick. 

One of our favorite recipes is for our Salted McCreery Mud Slide Cookie. It will become an instant hit at all your functions during the summer, and we want to be the first to share it with you.

  • 2 cups all purpose flour plus 2 tablespoons
  • 1/2 tsp of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons of instant coffee
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 stick of melted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg plus 1 egg yoke
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup McCreery Mud
  • 1 cup chocolate chunks
  • sea salt for sprinkling

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix flour, cocoa, instant coffee, salt and baking soda in a bowl and set aside.  In another bowl mix the melted butter and sugars until combined. Add the egg plus egg yoke and vanilla and mix well.  Slowly add McCreery Mud and mix.  Gradually add flour mixture until dough forms.  Form into small golf ball sized shapes and place on greased cookie sheet.  Bake for 15 minutes.  As soon as cookies come out of the over, sprinkle with sea salt.  Let cool and enjoy.
