Neiman Marcus' Art of Fashion Fete

Style Night Out isn’t the only Charlotte fashion party in which to partake tomorrow night. We can, of course, count on Neiman Marcus for its annual, posh fall fashion fete. The store has teamed up with the Mint Museum for a night dedicated to fashion and art—and the beautiful overlap that both so seamlessly invite: the Art of Fashion Fete.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and is hosted at Neiman Marcus in SouthPark Mall. 100...

Style Night Out

Style Night Out

While everyone else celebrated Fashion’s Night Out last Thursday, our supremely chic city just so happened to be hosting another engagement—the DNC.  But we don’t mind; Effie Loukas et al are giving the Queen City its own red pushpin on the world fashion map.

After two years of gracefully following Vogue/New York City and the rest of the world's lead on Fashion’s Night Out (Vogue Editor Anna Wintour’s brainchild, geared at recharging the retail scene in a struggling economy), Loukas (local fashion maven, owner of

Fashion's Night Out Tonight at Belk

Fashion's Night Out Tonight at Belk

It’s thrilling, and really, amazing to have the DNC here in town this week (!!!), but selfishly, I kind of wish they could have scheduled it for next week. It’s New York Fashion Week in NYC and the rest of the country, but most of Charlotte’s FNO events have been rescheduled for next week so as not to interfere with the DNC. (Next week’s events take place on September 13 and are called “Style’s Night Out,” as any event not hosted tonight can’t be called FNO).

But Belk is staying strong and hosting

Back to School Bargains at Barnes & Noble

Back to School Bargains at Barnes & Noble

For CMS-ers, the first day of school is exactly one week away, which means it's time to get in gear and get the gear.

The nerd in me is jealous, as all through school, I'd basically liken back-to-school shopping with Christmas morning. My mom dreaded taking me because, while my brother and sister would slap any old notebook into the cart and complain that it was cutting into their pool time, I'd spend an hour pouring over the perfect trio of highlighters and searching for the binder I felt best expressed my inner-fashionista. I'll just leave you to imagine the painstaking efforts put into picking out my first day of school outfit. The work was so tedious that, at 25, I can still remember every first day of school outfit from 3rd...

Get the Olympic Look at Sun & Ski Sports

Get the Olympic Look at Sun & Ski Sports

I have to be honest; being the fashion-minded editor that I am, for me, the Olympics always conjures up images of Béla Károlyi in his tack-tastic wind suits, or of bite-sized gymnasts gallivanting in bedazzled leotards. But here in 2012, the USA’s pretty much upped the ante on the cool factor of its official gear, and for that, I’m grateful.

Want to get the Games’ look here, in the city? Well, Charlotteans, you’re in luck! Promenade on Providence's recent (as of late June) transplant, Sun & Ski Sports, which got its start in North Carolina at Concord Mills in 1999, stocks it all. That includes the official

Half United Trunk Show and Summer Sale at Revolution

Half United Trunk Show and Summer Sale at Revolution

There's lots going on at Revolution right now, but today's shotout goes to the HALF United Trunk Show, which runs from 5-9 p.m. tonight.

Here's the skinny:

The jewelry/apparel company HALF United is based out of Wilmington, N.C., and its name carries great weight. Half of the profts from every purchase go to charities that fight world hunger. And that cause is reflected in the brand's famous "bullet" necklaces and key chains; the bullet is a symbol for that fight against hunger. As part of today's trunk show, HALF will host a mobile "Bullet Bar," and here, shoppers can create their...
