09/29/11Scoop Charlotte Consignment Crawl
I'm a penny-pincher, which doesn't always mesh well with my fashion editing occupation. But events like Scoop Charlotte's Consignment Crawl this weekend (Friday, Sept. 30-Saturday, Oct. 1) certainly help. Five of Charlotte's fabulous consignment shops will be offering select discounts on their re-sale, gently worn designer labels and vintage treasures. Don't mind me; I'll be the girl tearing through the racks beside you. Here's the Scoop summary of what deals to score and where to score them: J.T. Posh-- 20% off the entire store (including a Towne & Reese Fall/Holiday Showcase) *Nibble on party favors by... Read more » Posted at 11:29 PM | Permalink | Comments: 1 |

09/29/11Neiman Marcus Nancy Gonzales Foursquare Challenge
It's hunting season -- but not the kind where you have to slap on camo and rubber boots and wade through a pond making duck calls; it's the kind where you go to Neiman Marcus to shop (because it's Saturday, of course), play on your phone, and score a gorgeous Nancy Gonzales clutch if you're stealth enough. If you're convinced that this might be your kind of hunting, you won't want to miss out on Neiman Marcus' first Foursquare (it's that site where you tell everyone on your social network... 09/25/11Missoni for Target
I'm a little late jumping on the bandwagon in posting this, and maybe it's because I'm sufficiently annoyed that a collective Charlotte has already flocked the area Targets and swept the shelves of most of the goods, but the Missoni for Target collection is in town. In case you don't already know, the Missoni fashion house opened its doors in Italy in 1953 and has, since, been the envy of label lovers the world over. If you're kicking yourself for missing the actual "for Target" in-store supply, don't; I hear that by 8:15 a.m. on opening day, September 13 (doors opened at 8 a.m.), most everything was gone. But the good news is that you can still snag a few of those iconic,... Read more » Posted at 03:13 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/20/11Charlotte NC Fashion Week
Well, folks, it's official. Tomorrow means the start of Charlotte's 4th annual Charlotte NC Fashion Week. Mayor Anthony Foxx has even declared it in print. If you didn't get your fill at Fashion's Night Out on the 8th, you'll want to plant yourself in your favorite pumps at the Epicentre's Pavillion September 21-24. Here's the skinny on what each day of the shindig, hosted by Posted at 09:19 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/19/11Emmy Fashion
Awards season is upon us again! I, of course, planned to tune in to the 63rd annual Emmys for my main men--Rob Lowe, Jon Hamm, and the other usual suspects--but Red Carpet fashion kept me entertained in my wait. Don't mind if I do! In case you missed any of the 5,000 hours of pre-show fashion coverage or Fashion Police today, here's my call on who owned it and who should never have bought (or borrowed) it: Best Dress: Racy rouges and utlra-femme, fitted fishtail gowns owned the night, but Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev (I suppose she should know how to rock blood red) stole the spotlight in Donna Karan. Her flat-as-a-pancake stomach and... Read more » Posted at 09:37 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/16/11White after Labor Day?
I remember begging my mom for white Keds for school every year. She'd say, "No! You can only wear them for a few weeks, until Labor Day, and then it's tacky." I suspect most of our mothers engrained this point in us. (Side note: today, my mom is approaching 60 and is infinitely more fashionable than I. ) For some reason, in 2011, we still see fiercely stylish people pause, post-Labor Day, and ask a friend if it's okay to wear white shorts on a 100-degree day in September. I thought the question had been resolved, but it hasn't, so I'm putting it to rest, once and for all. Notice the friendly poster to the left. Guess what? We're not kids begging for Keds at Stride Rite anymore; we're adults! That means we decide what... Read more » Posted at 06:38 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/15/11ZARA: Online Shopping Now Available to U.S.!
Zara is so thoughtful. Just in time for my birthday, the beloved international clothing company—which was the apple of my eye while I studied abroad in Florence—has made shopping online open to the U.S., and all 50 states, at that. YES! Zara has actual stores in some surrounding cities (like NYC) and across the States, but now, with the option of shopping online, Charlotte is finally getting a piece of the pie. We don’t even have to leave our houses! So long,... Read more » Posted at 08:23 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/12/11Fashion's Night Out: Neiman Marcus
Bordeaux. Lady chic. Colorblocking. Fur. Leather. Shimmer. Bold Gold. Pumps. Handheld bags. The fall face. They’re some of the trends that define fall fashion, and I had the pleasure of viewing them up close, on the Neiman Marcus of South Park Mall catwalk last Thursday night. If you merely watched the runway from your couch, to the tune of Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia on "Project Runway," you missed out. Charlotte, along with the rest of the country and cities... Read more » Posted at 10:25 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/11/11Austin FashionAfter spending a glorious past few days in Austin, TX, I’ve finally figured out the true meaning of “Texas Swagger.” There’s a certain bravado that accompanies a person who steps off of a plane into the Charlotte airport (coming from Austin) wearing cowboy boots—just as many of those who flew alongside me on my returning flight did. I have to admit, I stared. But in awe. They (men and women, alike) were dressed in perfect business wear, with tough, but polished boots peeking out from their hems. And yet, they weren’t cowboy caricatures. They exuded an authenticity and a connection to their roots that I feel we rarely see these days. Maybe I’m a little jealous that North Carolina doesn’t seem to have its own fashion identity—though, I think we look damn good. It... Read more » Posted at 02:39 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/08/11What's Happening: Fashion's Night Out 2011
I’m lamenting the end of Labor Day and the return to reality, but one thing makes this 4-day work week MUCH sweeter: Charlotte’s biggest fashion parties are taking place! Fashion’s Night Out, a fashion world phenomenon put together by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, VOGUE, NYC & Company and the city of New York a few years ago as a salute to local shopping in a time of economic strife, has taken the globe by storm (international celebrations as far as Turkey, Britain, Australia, China and Greece), and made its first debut in Charlotte a couple of years ago. The success was so great that our city has decided to make the salute an annual affair. So, are you ready to put on your... Read more » Posted at 01:05 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/02/11What's Happening: Pickles and Ice Cream Fall Sale
Dressing for two? Pickles and Ice Cream can help streamline the process and save you some pretty pennies at its Labor Day Sale, now through Sunday. Pick up cozy autumn pieces while the 10 percent off fall fashions (excluding designer Denim, basics and accessories) promotion is in play. There’s a reason we chose this spot for our Best Maternity award in last year’s Best of the Best showdown; the preggo-posh shop stocks fabulous diaper bags stylish enough to double as... Read more »

09/02/11What's Happening: Slate Interiors Gallery Crawl
Still scoping out holiday weekend plans? We’ve got you covered! You won’t want to miss the Gallery Crawl happening today at Slate Interiors, from 5-8 p.m. (that’s way past Slate’s usual bedtime). At this self-proclaimed taste of “Paris flea market meets SoHo,” you’ll travel without leaving the city. 09/02/11Love it: Cottage Chic's Fall Collection
Good thing it’s September because I’m ready to drop my summer act and come to terms with what I’ve determined will be one, of many, fall fetishes: Cottage Chic. Admittedly, my love for this shop transcends the seasons—so many different kinds of goodies under one (adorable bungalow) roof—but their autumn inventory brings a whole bevy of new things to love. First, I love a good coupon (like this Posted at 12:30 AM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

09/02/11What's Happening: FROCK Shop Trunk Show
If you’re not spending Labor Day weekend on a jet ski skipping waves at Lake Norman or lounging by the pool, shopping is your best bet (then again, this biased opinion usually thinks it is). FROCK Shop, a traveling trunk show that’s based in Charlotte and sets up shop at privately-owned local businesses, will take over High Cotton Home (2137 South Blvd) on Friday (12-10 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.-6 p.m.). Sip wine and nibble on handmade chocolates from Petit Philippe and Twenty... Read more » Posted at 12:08 AM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

Victoria Robinette reclaimed her Charlotte roots three years ago, when she returned from journalism school in Chapel Hill. She’s filled her post-college days hot on the Queen City fashion scene, writing and styling for Charlotte Wedding, Home+Garden, Where Charlotte and Charlotte magazine. Now, she’s taken the reins as style editor of Charlotte. She loves sky high wedges and cozy riding boots, pampering her two Yorkies, finishing sentences with “Seinfeld” lines, and putting everything on hold for Tar Heel basketball.
