08/27/12News Bite: Carrburritos heads to Davidson
Davidson residents Doug and Edie Surratt plan to open the second location of Carrburritos on South Main Street by early December. The new location of the Mexican-inspired casual restaurant will take up 3,500 square feet of the Wooden Stone Gallery and will also offer catering and special events services. (The original Carrburritos is at the corner of Franklin and W. Rosemary streets in Carrboro, not far from the UNC Chapel Hill campus.) The Surratts have lived in Davidson for twenty years: Edie Surratt is the co-founder of the Davidson Farmers Market and the sister of Gail Fairbanks, who owns the original Carrburritos with her husband, Bill. 08/20/12News Bite: Nova's Bakery to open new location
Driving down South Boulevard last week, I saw the new sign going up on the twee little building that used to house Laurel Market's second location (1515 South Blvd.). It'll soon be turned into a new location for Nova's Bakery—they hope to be open before the DNC, but definitely the first week of September. Here's the best news: the little bakery will be open twenty-four hours a day. So if you've ever showed up to Nova's on Central after closing time, now you'll have a new location to haunt after 8 p.m. (or before 6 a.m., or any time, really). Krispy Kreme will celebrate the grand opening of its newest location at 119 N. Sharon Amity Rd. on Sept. 24. (The "hot now" sign turns on promptly at 6 a.m., and yes, there will be a drive-thru.) The first 100 customers in line will win free doughnuts for a year, plus a commemorative t-shirt. Starting at 5:30 a.m., the Krispy Kreme team will also hand out the company's signature chef's hats to people standing in line.
