Blind Item: Worst lunch experience ever?

Yesterday I tried unsuccessfully to grab some takeout from a local restaurant (which shall remain nameless).

I was unsuccessful in my attempt despite the facts that:

  1. I had tried to call ahead, but no one answered. (I left messages.)
  2. The restaurant was, according to the voicemail, open for business.
  3. I came to the restaurant, debit card in hand, ready to pay for and leave with my order.

So why was I unsuccessful in my attempt at procuring lunch from a local restaurant on a slow Wednesday, you ask?

When I arrived, I was greeted with an unlocked door, music playing, lights on...and that was it. I stood in the entrance for a few minutes, puzzled, when the chef managed to stick his head out of the pass and ask if I had come for lunch. (Yes, I had in fact come to a restaurant at lunchtime hoping for some lunch.)

He relayed the obvious: there were no servers. There had only been one scheduled, and he or she didn't bother to show up. The restaurant opened at 11 a.m. I had arrived at 12:30 p.m.

Me: "Is there any way I can just get something to go, then?"

Chef: "Are you planning to pay cash?"

Me: "Um...no."

Chef: "Let me call next door and see if one of their servers can come and help you."

Me: "..."

A few minutes later, the chef walked back over and told me that the restaurant next door wasn't answering and I "should probably leave." Which I did.

I haven't had service this bad in quite some time...although I'm not sure it technically could qualify as "service." What was your worst restaurant experience?
