Get Ready for 5Church

Get Ready for 5Church

5Church is easy to find. The name of this new restaurant signifies its location, on the corner of West Fifth and North Church streets in uptown. Recently, a tall sign was added to the exterior, and so were two white flags with the 5Church logo, one protruding over each street. While there may be white flags waving as you pass this soon-to-open restaurant, its owners have no intentions of surrendering. 5Church is being opened and ran by partners Patrick Whalen, Mills Howell, and Alejandro Torio, and Executive Chef Jamie Lynch. They each bring a different set of skills and experience to the business. Your first impression will be thanks largely to the design work of Howell, who's also a partner at Reaching Quiet, an interior design firm that did the design work inside the... Read more »

Ten at Park Lanes Opens on Montford Drive

George Pappas’ Park Lanes, the name of the bowling alley many Charlotteans have come to know and love over decades, has been changed to reflect the massive renovation of the Montford Drive hangout. And there’s a grand re-opening party this weekend to celebrate. The newly minted Ten at Park Lanes features a bowling alley, restaurant, bar and lounge, 30 TVs (including two 70-inch screens), three outdoor patios, and a 24-tap outdoor beer garden. Sounds like something you’d hear about opening in uptown, right? Sort of like StrikeCity meets VBGB. It’s hip, modern, yet maintains a retro flair. The new owners, Montford Bowling Partners, began renovating the 30,000 square foot space last year. Despite all of the modern touches, when it came to the bowling... Read more »

About This Blog

Girls just want to have fun. Boys will be boys. You’re an adult now. Sure, you have more responsibilities than ever and your time is increasingly pressed. But it’s imperative that you make time for happy hour. That you check out that new nightclub while it’s still the hot, new thing. Dusk Till Dawn will help you navigate Charlotte’s nightlife scene, telling you where to go and when to go there.

About Jarvis

You may have seen Jarvis Holliday’s byline in Charlotte magazine and other local publications, maybe on a story in which he’s interviewed a prominent official or written about a serious issue. Well, not here. He’s taking the night off because you should as well (and maybe the next morning, too). Club owners and promoters will love him if they’re on their A-game. But if their parties are lame, he’s calling them on it. Look at his face. Do you think he cares who doesn’t like it? Follow him on Twitter @HollidayInk.
