George Pappas’ Park Lanes, the name of the bowling alley many Charlotteans have come to know and love over decades, has been changed to reflect the massive renovation of the Montford Drive hangout. And there’s a grand re-opening party this weekend to celebrate.

The newly minted Ten Park Lanes features a bowling alley, restaurant, bar and lounge, 30 TVs (including two 70-inch screens), three outdoor patios, and a 24-tap outdoor beer garden. Sounds like something you’d hear about opening in uptown, right? Sort of like StrikeCity meets VBGB. It’s hip, modern, yet maintains a retro flair.

The new owners, Montford Bowling Partners, began renovating the 30,000 square foot space last year. Despite all of the modern touches, when it came to the bowling alley, the owners say they renovated it to look more like it did when it was built in the 1960s. Another touch of nostalgia can be found on the food menu with items known as Mason Jar Signature Stacks, because they’re served in mason jars.

The full bar features a dispensing system that resembles a modern-day moonshine still (see photo, right), with 12 choices of moonshine on tap. The cocktail list includes Moonswine Mary (jalapeno and bacon infused Moonshine with house Bloody Mary mix), Carolina Peach (Catdaddy Moonshine, fresh peach nectar, and house cava), and Shiny Cheery Sour (cherry infused Moonshine, house-made sour mix, and soda fizz).

Grand Re-Opening
Saturday, April 28

An all-day party, from 2 p.m.-2 a.m., featuring craft-beer tastings, moonshine tastings, bowling, a cornhole competition, and live music by the Bad Daddies, Moonshine Racers, and Aqualads, along with music by DJ Smitty and DJ Wiz Kid.

Ten Park Lanes, 1700 Montford Dr., rollten.com. Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-midnight; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 a.m.; Sunday, noon-midnight.

About Jarvis

You may have seen Jarvis Holliday’s byline in Charlotte magazine and other local publications, maybe on a story in which he’s interviewed a prominent official or written about a serious issue. Well, not here. He’s taking the night off because you should as well (and maybe the next morning, too). Club owners and promoters will love him if they’re on their A-game. But if their parties are lame, he’s calling them on it. Look at his face. Do you think he cares who doesn’t like it? Follow him on Twitter @HollidayInk.
