USC vs. ECU Is Bringing Football and Partying to Charlotte Labor Day Weekend

USC vs. ECU Is Bringing Football and Partying to Charlotte Labor Day Weekend

I love Charlotte—been living here six years this month. But I’ll always be a Rembert, SC boy at heart and a South Carolina Gamecock fan until they bury me in a Garnet and Black casket. So when I hear folks around here saying they went to Carolina, if it ain’t my Carolina (USC) then they need to elaborate and put “North” in front of it (UNC).

So imagine how happy I was when I learned last spring that my alma mater South Carolina Gamecocks football team would be opening the season against the East Carolina Pirates during Labor Day weekend at Bank of America Stadium... Read more »

About Last Night

About Last Night

If you read my previous blog post (“Battle Slam Jam, Alpha Luau, Crown Royal and Patrón Parties, and More this Saturday”), then you know there were a lot of parties going on in Charlotte last night, and that Saturday was my birthday. I’m sure most bar and nightclub owners will tell you that Saturday is typically their busiest night of the week because of the weekend factor, but last night saw an increased number of parties because several promoters had events planned. I jokingly remarked that I would possibly go to all of the parties I listed. Well, I managed to go to two of them plus three other... Read more »

Battle Slam Jam, Alpha Luau, Crown Royal and Patrón Parties, and More this Saturday

There's a ridiculous number of parties going on tomorrow. One can only assume it’s because it’s my birthday (and my twin brother’s). Maybe I should try hitting up all of these parties in one day/night… I’ve narrowed this list down to what I think will be the best ones. You should be sure to pick at least one or two, and have a good time.

Saturday, August 20

Sixth Annual Battle Slam Jam
Okay, so this isn’t a party but it’s a cool event that I had the pleasure of checking out for the first time in 2009. This year’s festival seems bigger than ever and will feature skateboard contests, DJs, live bands, a B-boy/B-girl battle, graffiti writing, pop & locking, a comic book row, a... Read more »

‘The Beautiful People’ Event Returns for Second Year

‘The Beautiful People’ Event Returns for Second Year

When The Beautiful People: Part Deux takes place tomorrow (Thursday, August 11), you can expect “all kinds of hidden treasures,” the organizers say. And I believe them. I attended the inaugural event last year at Chima Brazilian Steakhouse and was pleasantly surprised and impressed ("'Beautiful People Event' Was a Good Look"). This time around, the event will be held 6-10 p.m. at Georges Brasserie, located at 4620 Piedmont Row Drive inside Piedmont Town Center in SouthPark.

The theme for the event is Treasure Chest and it’s all about jewels and jewel tones. The evening will... Read more »

Derek Braun’s Moving to Vegas and Wants You to Go out More in Charlotte

Derek Braun’s Moving to Vegas and Wants You to Go out More in Charlotte

Derek Braun has been a go-to party promoter in Charlotte for several years. Chances are you’ve danced, drank, and had a good time at one of his events. For the past year and a half, he’s handled the parties and special events exclusively at Mez and Kazba, the neighboring venues inside the EpiCentre. Last weekend he threw a Mustache Party, and the weekend before a Candy Land event in which Mez was decorated to look like the iconic board game (except with sexy models included).

But this Saturday, August 6, 9 p.m. at Kazba, there’s the “Derek Braun’s... Read more »

About This Blog

Girls just want to have fun. Boys will be boys. You’re an adult now. Sure, you have more responsibilities than ever and your time is increasingly pressed. But it’s imperative that you make time for happy hour. That you check out that new nightclub while it’s still the hot, new thing. Dusk Till Dawn will help you navigate Charlotte’s nightlife scene, telling you where to go and when to go there.

About Jarvis

You may have seen Jarvis Holliday’s byline in Charlotte magazine and other local publications, maybe on a story in which he’s interviewed a prominent official or written about a serious issue. Well, not here. He’s taking the night off because you should as well (and maybe the next morning, too). Club owners and promoters will love him if they’re on their A-game. But if their parties are lame, he’s calling them on it. Look at his face. Do you think he cares who doesn’t like it? Follow him on Twitter @HollidayInk.
