Salute to Tiffany Jones, a Digital Diva

Salute to Tiffany Jones, a Digital Diva

Saturday night, I had the most fun I’ve had at a party in awhile. It should come as no surprise that it was an occasion celebrating the young lady who’s been responsible for countless great parties and events since I’ve lived in Charlotte. Hundreds of her friends and colleagues gathered at The Sunset Club for a private “send-off party” for Tiffany L. Jones, who, after eight years in the Queen City is moving to the Big Apple to begin a new job (it was also a party for Carl Smith, who’s moving from Charlotte to London.)

It was a who’s who of black professionals in attendance Saturday night (Read more »

It’s forecasted to be 60-degree weather over the next three days, and you can heat things up a little more by attending these events.

Tuesday, January 24

CharlotteONE (weekly event)
Okay, so this isn't a party like most of the events on this list (unless you party for Jesus), but it does have a social aspect and we mix it up here on Dusk Till Dawn. Hundreds of twenty- and thirty-somethings flock to CharlotteONE for a spiritual connection in a contemporary, hip way. Held Tuesday evenings while in season, this week’s installment features Pastor Todd Phillips from Dallas, Texas, who will discuss moral law and the standard for Christian ethics. Next Tuesday’s event is the Read more »

La Paz Holding Grand Reopening Party

La Paz Holding Grand Reopening Party

A longtime staple among Charlotte’s Mexican dining and bar scene is celebrating its reopening this Thursday, January 19. La Paz Restaurante & Cantina officially reopened about three weeks ago at the Metropolitan, so this could be your first opportunity to check out its new digs.

This is the third incarnation of the thirty-plus year-old restaurant and bar. Most recently, La Paz was located in South End, until it closed about a year ago and made plans to reopen in the Metropolitan, the shiny, mixed-use complex that’s home to condos, Trader Joe’s, Vivace, Pisces... It’s a three-day holiday weekend in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Make sure you take time to reflect on his legacy and take part in a community serivce event. But this annual weekend also means party time in Charlotte, because a lot of people don’t have to work Monday. I’ve listed a dozen parties for you to choose from over three days. And if you’re looking for something arts related to do, check out our Revue blogger’s weekend picks.

For the fourth year in a row, I’m compiling a list of events for what is undoubtedly the most party-filled week in Charlotte: CIAA Week a.k.a. the week the CIAA Tournament takes place. If you’re an event planner or party promoter and are holding an event during the week of February 27 through March 4, 2012 in Charlotte, click here to submit your event (it’s free) to be included in Charlotte magazine’s comprehensive list. ‘Drinking Made Easy’ Highlights Charlotte’s Bar Scene in Jan. 25 Episode

‘Drinking Made Easy’ Highlights Charlotte’s Bar Scene in Jan. 25 Episode

What do you think of Charlotte’s cocktail and craft beer scene? There are more bars, nightclubs, and lounges in the city serving up premium drinks than ever before. Perhaps a testament to Charlotte’s love for libation is the city being featured in an upcoming episode of Drinking Made Easy on HDNet.

Drinking Made Easy is a cool show that is akin to something you would see on a popular food channel. Hosted by Zane Lamprey, the show not only educates viewers on drinking culture and recipes, but does it in a fun, lighthearted, and sometimes obnoxious way—the way drinking should be.

I got to watch the half-hour episode in advance and I was pleased to see that Lamprey visited a good and varied selection of Charlotte bars.... Read more »

A Sports Bar Row Along East Boulevard

A Sports Bar Row Along East Boulevard

I recently found out that one of my favorite wine bars has converted to a sports bar. If there’s one thing Charlotte doesn’t have a shortage of, it's sports bars. And perhaps even more telling is that our new economic reality means there’s more of a market now for sports bars (cheap beers and eats) than for wine bars (high-priced bottles and flights).

So Yn Wine Café is now Sidekicks Sports & Spirits. And with this new addition, there’s sort of a sports bar row along East Boulevard in and around Latta Pavilion, rounded out with East Boulevard Bar & Grill and Sutton House.

Operated by the adjoining 131... Read more »

About This Blog

Girls just want to have fun. Boys will be boys. You’re an adult now. Sure, you have more responsibilities than ever and your time is increasingly pressed. But it’s imperative that you make time for happy hour. That you check out that new nightclub while it’s still the hot, new thing. Dusk Till Dawn will help you navigate Charlotte’s nightlife scene, telling you where to go and when to go there.

About Jarvis

You may have seen Jarvis Holliday’s byline in Charlotte magazine and other local publications, maybe on a story in which he’s interviewed a prominent official or written about a serious issue. Well, not here. He’s taking the night off because you should as well (and maybe the next morning, too). Club owners and promoters will love him if they’re on their A-game. But if their parties are lame, he’s calling them on it. Look at his face. Do you think he cares who doesn’t like it? Follow him on Twitter @HollidayInk.
