Whiskey Warehouse Opens 'Top Shelf' Rooftop Bar and Patio

Whiskey Warehouse Opens 'Top Shelf' Rooftop Bar and Patio

One of Plaza Midwood’s most popular bars has taken it up a level—literally. Whiskey Warehouse has opened a rooftop bar and patio called Top Shelf.

Top Shelf opened last week, and I had a chance to check it out last night when I went to Whiskey Warehouse to watch my South Carolina Gamecocks win their second consecutive College World Series! (Gamecock fans packed the house—this was the location for the alumni's official viewing party. Good times.) Unfortunately, it rained so the rooftop bar was closed for the night, but one of the bartenders took me up for a tour of it.

The owners of Whiskey Warehouse have built one of the finest rooftop patios in the city—I believe the name Top... Read more »

Case of the Mondays: Cocktails at the Bechtler, CWS Viewing Parties, Party with Borgore

Monday is here and you’re back to work. Why not cap off this dreadful day with some fun? Here are a few events taking place this evening/tonight (Monday, June 27) you might enjoy.

Modern Mondays at the Bechtler
The museum introduces this new bi-weekly series, which will feature local and regional scholars, artists, and professionals leading interactive discussions about works in the Bechtler collection and exhibitions. This evening’s event is sort of a happy hour. Labeled “Cocktails & Conversation,” the event features Ann Fox, associate professor of English and coordinator for the gender studies concentration at Davidson College, who will lead a discussion of the “Bride,” a sculpture by Niki de Saint Phalle.... Sunday Is Now Party Time in Charlotte

Sunday Is Now Party Time in Charlotte

I remember a time in Charlotte just a few years ago, when if you wanted to go out on a Sunday, there weren’t many options. Now, not only do many of the bars in uptown open their doors on the Sabbath day, but some of them have creative ways to convince you to party at a time when you might ordinarily be kicked back, dreading the start of the work week. Here are a few parties and events you can enjoy on Sundays this summer.

Barefoot at RE:PUBLIC
Kicked off in June and held on the second and fourth Sundays of the month (including this Sunday, June 26), it’s a brunch party. From noon to 5 p.m., you can enjoy a $20 all-you-can-eat buffet and $10 bottomless mimosas, with music by Greg Pappanastos. The name Barefoot reflects the fact that faux... Read more »

Hang with Dad on Father’s Day: List of Events

In honor of Father’s Day, I’m departing from the party scene coverage here on Dusk Till Dawn (no matter how old you get, I’m not sure if it’s ever cool to party with Dad). So here is a list of events taking place this Sunday, June 19 that you might enjoy attending with your father. And, of course, it’s heavy on the sports.

Father’s Day at The Golf Club at Ballantyne
You buy a round of golf and your dad can play for free. Be sure to mention this Father’s Day offer at the time of booking your tee time (call 704-248-4383 for tee times). Also, enjoy a 15 percent discount off any putter and wedge purchases at the golf shop. The Golf Club at Ballantyne, The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge, 10000... Read more »

Auditions for ‘The Bachelor’, Summer DJ Fest at EpiCentre

There is never a shortage of events and parties at the EpiCentre, but there are two in particular this week that stand out.

The popular, weekly Alive After Five should see a noticeable increase of ladies in attendance this Thursday, June 16 at Pavilion at EpiCentre. Casting producers from ABC’s The Bachelor will be present, searching for prospective bachelorettes to appear on the next season of the hit reality show. If you’ve long dreamed of attending the famous rose ceremony in search of true love, then here’s your chance to audition. Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m., and on-camera interviews will run through 10 p.m. at Suite. And if you think the odds are insurmountable of you becoming one of the twenty-five women chosen from the... Read more »

Party with Jacinda and Doug E. Fresh

Party with Jacinda and Doug E. Fresh

This weekend you can party with a couple of celebrities—and maybe more. On Friday, June 10, Jacinda Garabito is hosting Jacinda’s Gemini Experience at RE:PUBLIC. And on Saturday, the incomparable Doug E. Fresh will be the main attraction at Celebrity 2nd Saturdays at Fifth Element.

Many of you might remember local celebrity Jacinda from the years she co-hosted Brotha Fred’s A.M. Mayhem on 96.1 F.M. She’s now a reporter at WBTV, so for (male) fans who fell in love with her voice and wit, they realize she’s also easy on the eyes. On Friday she’s celebrating her birthday and paying tribute to her fellow Geminis. Jacinda’s well-known and this party should attract many of Charlotte’s movers and shakers and... Read more »

First Fridays at the Mint Wraps for the Season

06/02/11

First Fridays at the Mint Wraps for the Season

This Friday, June 3, sees the final First Fridays at the Mint of the season. The popular, monthly, after-hours event will return in the fall, but if you haven’t experienced it yet at the Mint Museum Uptown, you’ll want to come out tomorrow before it takes a summer break.

The event goes from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and has something for everyone—museum lovers as well as party people. There will be an eclectic fashion show by Febi Style (featuring the elements earth, wind, fire, and water), live art demonstrations by artist Gordon David, tours of the galleries, a cash bar, and more. Plus, there will be music by DJ Darryl Elkins and DJ Encore, and the party gets turned up in the EleMint Lounge on the terrace once the sun goes down.

Events like this have an air of... Read more »

About This Blog

Girls just want to have fun. Boys will be boys. You’re an adult now. Sure, you have more responsibilities than ever and your time is increasingly pressed. But it’s imperative that you make time for happy hour. That you check out that new nightclub while it’s still the hot, new thing. Dusk Till Dawn will help you navigate Charlotte’s nightlife scene, telling you where to go and when to go there.

About Jarvis

You may have seen Jarvis Holliday’s byline in Charlotte magazine and other local publications, maybe on a story in which he’s interviewed a prominent official or written about a serious issue. Well, not here. He’s taking the night off because you should as well (and maybe the next morning, too). Club owners and promoters will love him if they’re on their A-game. But if their parties are lame, he’s calling them on it. Look at his face. Do you think he cares who doesn’t like it? Follow him on Twitter @HollidayInk.
