Several Lake Norman bars and restaurants, including Skybar, are serving food and drinks at the Annual LKN Summer Soiree Thursday.

Summer officially starts this week, and there are some great events lined up. You can get out and enjoy yourself without having to wait until the weekend.

Tuesday, June 19

SMCLT Happy Hour
Social Media Charlotte presents this happy hour networking event, so it’s a great time to come out from behind your laptop, tablet, or smart phone and meet some of the people you follow online. 5:30-7:30 p.m. Free. Vivace, 1100 Metropolitan Ave., socialmediacharlotte.com, vivacecharlotte.com.

American Idol at the Beer Garden
According to VBGB’s Facebook, “The American Idol crew (and some of the potential Charlotte contestants) are coming” … and “they said they are bringing their cameras.” I’m assuming this is for the footage the show typically gathers in a city where it’s hosting auditions, which are happening today at Time Warner Cable Arena. Plus, it’s $2 Tuesday so you’ll enjoy great specials. 4 p.m.-midnight. Free. VBGB Beer Hall & Garden, at NC Music Factory, 920 Hamilton St., vbgbuptown.com.

Dale Jr. Victory Party / Hunter Hayes Concert
In honor of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s NASCAR win Sunday, his bar is throwing him a party. From 9-10 p.m., Whisky River is running the "Dale Reigns We Pour" promotion, which means open bar for an entire hour. Then at 10 p.m., Hunter Hayes will perform in concert. Doors open at 6 p.m. Free. Whisky River, at EpiCentre, 210 E. Trade St., whiskyrivercharlotte.com.

Wednesday, June 20

MeckYR Happy Hour
The Mecklenburg County Young Republicans are partnering with Socialflockers to host this after-work event, featuring $2.25 Bud Lights and food specials. And at 9 p.m., trivia starts. 7-10 p.m. Free. Angry Ales, 1518 Montford Dr., socialflockers.com, meckyr.com, angryales.com.

Pop Life: The First Day of Summer
This weekly nightclub event invites you to celebrate the first day of summer, with music by DJ Sense from Atlanta and of Aphilliates Music Group in the main room, and DJ CK on the patio. 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Free; VIP tables available, tami@republicofcharlotte.com. Re:Public, 314 N. College St., facebook.com/republic.charlotte, thesolkitchen.com.

Trunks, Bikinis and Heels
It’s a reason for you to wear your favorite swimsuits without going near water. Guys wearing swim trunks get complimentary PBR until 11:30 p.m., and ladies wearing bikini tops and high heels will get complimentary PBR and $2 wells during that time. Drink specials after 11:30 include $2 Miller Lites and $5 grenades. 10 p.m.-2a.m. Free. Tilt, 127 W. Trade St., tiltontrade.com.

Thursday, June 21

Big Boss Tap Takeover
Big Boss Brewing is showcasing a great draft selection of beers they say you won’t find anywhere else in North Carolina, such as Angry Angel, Bad Penny, Blanco Diablo, Hell’s Belle, High Roller, and Monkey Bizz-ness. Beers will be served in a $5 flight where you choose three, plus complimentary food from Dandelion Market. Prizes will also be given away. 5-9 p.m. Free. Prohibition, 200 N. Tryon St., prohibitionclt.com.

Cufflinks & Cocktails
It’s one of Charlotte’s longest-running, monthly social events, held the third Thursday of each month at a different, trendy bar or lounge. Put on by the Charlotte Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, a well-dressed crowd of young professionals mix and mingle. 6-10 p.m. Free. The Liberty, 1812 South Blvd., cufflinksandcocktails.com, thelibertycharlotte.com.

Simplified Live
One of Charlotte’s favorite rock bands, Simplified, performs at this fundraiser for The Sandbox, a charity benefiting teens with cancer. 6:30-10 p.m. $10 donation. The Saloon at NC Music Factory, thesalooncharlotte.com, whatsinyoursandbox.org.

Second Annual LKN Summer Soiree
Organizers invite you to “experience the lake effect” at this event featuring food and drinks (open bar) from top restaurants, bars, and nightclubs in the Lake Norman area, including Dirty Martini, Rusty Rudder, Brickhouse Tavern, Wine Cellar, Galway Hooker, and more. There will also be live music by Blue Monday, as well as DJ Bob on the turntables. 7:30 p.m.-midnight. $35, all-inclusive. The Palace, 8325 Copley Dr., Cornelius, lknsummersoiree2.eventbrite.com.

About Jarvis

You may have seen Jarvis Holliday’s byline in Charlotte magazine and other local publications, maybe on a story in which he’s interviewed a prominent official or written about a serious issue. Well, not here. He’s taking the night off because you should as well (and maybe the next morning, too). Club owners and promoters will love him if they’re on their A-game. But if their parties are lame, he’s calling them on it. Look at his face. Do you think he cares who doesn’t like it? Follow him on Twitter @HollidayInk.
