Wine Tasting, Pajama Bar Crawl, Cigar Festival, Pink Party, and More this Weekend

There are a lot of great parties and social events on tap for this weekend, and several of them benefit great causes. Here’s the rundown.

Friday, September 30

A Jazzy Wine Tasting
The Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists (CAABJ) present this event to raise money for their annual college scholarship. Mix, mingle, and enjoy good drinks and food at one of uptown Charlotte’s trendiest wine bars. There will also be a special raffle and silent auction with items from Perry's Estate Jewelry and more. 7 p.m. $20. Free parking available in gated parking deck at W. Trade and S. Mint streets. NC Music Factory Has a ‘Small Bar’

Small Bar is the latest venue to open at NC Music Factory, and it’s a clever name for a welcomed concept at the sprawling entertainment complex.

Small Bar opened about a week and a half ago in the space of a former loading dock (on the backside of Bask On Seaboard). As the name implies, the bar is only about 900 square feet but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in heart. By that, I mean the owners care enough to offer you drinks at some of the lowest prices in town. You pay just $4 for twenty-four-ounce beers and, wait for it, only $6 for premium drinks like Grey Goose.

Privilege Is Uptown Charlotte’s Newest Nightclub

“It’s not a privilege for you to come here. It’s our privilege to serve you.” That’s how Shawn Kennedy described his intentions for his new nightclub when I toured it Tuesday. About a half-dozen workers were scrambling to install mirrors and bar equipment, add final touches of paint, and put furniture into place. Privilege is opening in uptown Charlotte this weekend with events by two popular promoters, and then holds its official grand opening next weekend.

Privilege is located on South Brevard Street, just two blocks from Time Warner Cable Arena, in walking distance from other popular attractions, and is surrounded by several large parking lots (plus, the club is leasing the United Way’s parking lot next door so that its guests may... Read more »

I’ve witnessed Charlotte’s fashion scene blossom over the last three or four years. If you haven’t noticed, September is an event-filled month in Charlotte, particularly heavy on the festivals. And when there’s an element of nightlife, it’s prime for Dusk Till Dawn. A Taste of What’s to Come at Heart Ball

Thursday evening I attended the Chef Challenge event that served as the kick off to the 2012 Greater Charlotte Heart Ball campaign. As you're probably aware, the annual Greater Charlotte Heart Ball, which takes place for the 54th year, February 11, 2012, is one of the city’s most prestigious galas and important fundraising events for the American Heart Association. The Chef Challenge was a fun way to get people excited about the campaign.

Fashion’s Night Out Charlotte this Thursday at NC Music Factory

Monday’s Labor Day, So Party Sunday

This Labor Day weekend in Charlotte has been all about the USC-ECU game (well, at least for me), but one of the great things about not having to work on Monday is that you can treat Sunday like it’s Saturday and party hard.
