The RNC In The CLT: Romney Campaigns, Fundraises in Charlotte

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney visited Charlotte yesterday, giving a speech at a public event in the afternoon, and later attending a private fundraiser in his honor that evening.

His speech, which his campaign had touted since the beginning of the week as a “prebuttal” to the Democratic National Convention speech President Barack Obama will give less than five months from now, garnered lots of national media coverage for two reasons. GO CLT Launches Thursday for Young Professionals

The Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee is rolling out a new initiative to get young professionals involved. GO CLT launches this Thursday, April 12, with a kickoff celebration at Fitzgerald’s Irish Pub (formerly Buckhead Saloon), 201 E. Fifth Street in uptown.

Democratic National Convention Chair Antonio Villaraigosa Visits Charlotte

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who in February was nominated as permanent chair of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, is visiting Charlotte for a couple of days. This morning, the Democratic National Convention Committee invited media to meet with him as he toured the Charlotte Convention Center with Mayor Anthony Foxx and DNCC CEO Steve Kerrigan.
