Most of the presidential politics talk over the last few months has been about the candidates vying for the Republican Party’s nomination. And with the Iowa caucuses less than a week away, the twenty-four-hour news outlets are nearly drowning us in coverage of what Romney, Gingrich, Paul, and ’em are doing at every waking moment. 12/22/11‘New South for the New Southerner’ Event to Focus on the DNC
Levine Museum of the New South is holding the next installment of its signature series, New South for the New Southerner, on January 5. The theme of the event is “The Inside Scoop on the DNC.” Speaking that evening will be Steve Kerrigan, Democratic National Convention Committee CEO, and Mary Tribble, chief of event planning for the Committee for Charlotte in 2012 (host committee). Kerrigan, a Lancaster, Massachusetts native, moved to Charlotte in June and will reside here at least through September 2012 as he oversees planning for the convention. There are certain Christmas songs I look forward to hearing during this season each year: “This Christmas,” by Donny Hathaway; “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” by The Jackson 5; “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” by Mariah Carey; “Christmas In Hollis,” by Run-D.M.C.; and “Feliz Navidad,” by Jose Feliciano, to name a few. But it isn’t just those Christmas songs that have become enamored in pop culture that I adore. I appreciate standards like “Twelve Days of Christmas” as well. He’s half-man, half-amazing (an ode to his slam-dunking prowess), and now he’s voicing his support for the 2012 Democratic National Convention. NBA star Vince Carter is featured in a short video released today by the Committee for Charlotte in 2012. 12/05/11Network, Lunch, and Get Updated on the DNC
The Charlotte Chamber’s NorthWest and University City chapters are holding a joint luncheon on Thursday, December 15 to provide an update on the Democratic National Convention. Tracy Russ, senior adviser for Communications and Marketing of the Host Committee, will address the general impact of the DNC, opportunities for business with the convention, and how to utilize the DNC vendor directory.
The luncheon will run 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is being held at Hilton Charlotte University Place, 8629 JM Keynes Drive. The cost, which includes lunch, for Charlotte Chamber members is $20 if you register online, and $25 for at-the-door registration; for non-members it’s $45 and you must register online.
