He’s well known in this region as Charlotte’s first African-American mayor (in the 1980s) and in his current role as a partner at Gantt Huberman Architects. And not to mention there’s an impressive building named after him in Charlotte: Harvey B. Gantt Center for... Read more »

There’s lots of planning and decisions to be made between now and next September, but one thing for sure is there will be tens of thousands of visitors to Charlotte during the Democratic National Convention. That list will include delegates, national media, and celebrities. And those three categories mean one thing: there will be plenty of parties. More than nine months away, the first big event has been announced for DNC Week.

Contest Underway to Design an Official 2012 DNC Poster

The Committee for Charlotte in 2012 has kicked off a new contest in which creative people—artists, graphic designers, etc.—are invited to submit a poster design for the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The winning entry will become one of the DNC’s official posters, so basically your design could end up in campaign offices and Democratic-friendly businesses, homes, and dorm rooms everywhere. You would also receive commission for your work.

The announcement for the contest came this afternoon via an email from Committee for Charlotte in 2012 Executive Director Dan Murrey. (Click here to sign up to receive email updates... Read more »

Duped By Dulin: Bipartisanship Bites Local Dems in the Butt

In late September, the Committee for Charlotte in 2012 announced the members of its Host Committee and Steering Committee for the Democratic National Convention. With more than 100 names, the list reads like a who’s who of Charlotte and Carolinas business leaders and current and former elected officials. The DNC also touted bipartisanship, highlighting that it wasn’t just Democrats giving their time and expertise, but that a Read more »

The DNCC occupies the entire floor, which they began moving into in June. Currently there are about fifty staffers, and Kerrigan said that number will eventually grow to about 200 as they’ll lease two additional floors as the convention nears.

Stepping off the elevator onto the thirteenth floor, the scene feels like a... Read more »
