PrintAirport Completes Expansion
1990
The 1990 expansion opened four international gates and twenty commuter gates, and it solidified USAir's presence here as a hub. A year earlier, the airline had merged with Piedmont Airlines.
The airport, led by Jerry Orr, has continued to expand to meet the needs of USAirways and local businesses. Charlotte residents and small businesses rightfully complain about the high fares, but for the national and international firms that are headquartered here, the accessibility to the rest of the world is invaluable.
