Ten years ago, there was no nightlife in our center city. There wasn't much of anything, except for the office towers.
"Downtown at that time was pretty decrepit. There was nothing there. It was dead," says Andy Kastanas. "I thought it was a great place to start something."
Along with some partners, Kastanas, a longtime DJ, started Mythos. Some say his alternative, DJ-driven club actually jump-started the entire downtown after-hours scene.
Within two years of Mythos opening on Sixth Street near College, at least three other major clubs had opened nearby. Now, there are too many to count.
Mythos was the first major local club driven by DJ-mixed dance tunes.
