2006 Columbia Crest Two Vines Vineyard 10 White Wine, Washington State
A delicious glass of wine rolling around in a glass, emitting the essence of fruit and flowers, can be an escape from everyday life. I've found a few reasonably priced wines perfect for savoring in the late summer months.
2007 Wente Morning Fog Chardonnay, Livermore Valley, California: A smooth, creamy, fruity chardonnay with lots of oak. $13 at Winestore.
2007 Banrock Station Riesling, Southeast Australia: A nice wine with big apple fruits and a clean citrus fruit finish. A pleasant surprise from such an easy-to-find, lower-tier, supermarket wine. $5 at Harris Teeter.
2008 Mas Donis Rosat Capcanes Monstant Spain: A beautiful rosé in a light cranberry color with rich fruits of strawberries and a dry finish. $13 at Winestore.
Wine of the Month
2006 Columbia Crest Two Vines Vineyard 10 White Wine, Washington State. This is a blend of chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and semillon. It is a perfect white for the hot and humid month of August. A fruity wine with hints of apples, melons, and citrus. It has a rich chardonnay base, an austere dollop of sauvignon blanc, and is softened with semillon. Not too light and not too rich, just perfect. I have sampled a lot of the Columbia Crest Two Vines labels, and so far they are good wines, easy to find, and modestly priced. This is better than good, though—it's an incredible deal! I bought a case of it. $6 at World Market.
