Learn to fly a drone at Gaston College

Mar 2, 2019 to Mar 19, 2019
08:00 AM until 11:00 PM

The popularity of operating drones, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), has been increasing steadily over the past number of years. The Federal Aviation Administration reports that sales of recreational drones are expected to grow from 2.5 million in 2016 to 7 million in 2020.

Gaston College has a class for those who want to learn to fly drones, either as a hobby or for a business application. Drones 101, an introduction to personal and career-related drone operation, teaches the rules and regulations of drone flight and hands-on fly training, and it prepares students to pass the 107C test which is required to operate a drone.

The Drone is included in the $289 cost of the 15-hour class; students keep the drones after the class. The class is offered three times during the Gaston College spring semester:

  • First session: March 2 through March 19. Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m. and Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Second session: April 6 through April 23. Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m. and Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Third session: May 4 through May 31. Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m. and Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.

Space is limited for the Drones 101 class. To register, go to www.gaston.edu, click on WebAdvisor and then Continuing Education. Under the gold Registration bar, click Register and Pay for Continuing Education Classes. Enter “drones” for the Key Word search and click Submit. Select the session that best fits your schedule, click Submit and complete the requested information. Payment for the course is expected at time of registration.
