The annual CIAA Tournament is taking place in Charlotte for the eighth consecutive year, with events scheduled from February 25 to March 3, 2013. While there will be five days of college basketball games going on between the men's and women's teams of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) at Time Warner Cable Arena, the many surrounding events and parties create just as much excitement and draw tens of thousands of visitors.

Below is a list of events scheduled for Thursday, February 28. Please use the website listed for each event to verify information. Advance tickets can be purchased at many of the websites as well.

# CIAA College Career Expo

# Food Lion Health and Wellness Symposium

# CIAA Men’s Quarterfinals

# Food Lion CIAA Teen Summit
Girl Talk Foundation Inc. hosts this annual event for teenage girls and boys, ages 13-18. Teens will discuss important social issues and will also participate in a physical challenge and dance-off. Third Annual Charlotte Black Film Festival (February 28-March 2)
The CBFF presents three days of film screenings, film industry-focused workshops and panel discussions, networking events, and the Vision Awards, which celebrate the work of African American filmmakers. Tip-Off Thursday

The Trilogy

Third-Annual All-Tournament Alumni Mixer
Welcoming all CIAA alumni and celebrating continued growth of the HBCU family. Enjoy an upscale vibe with live jazz from Shableek, as well as music played by DJ Rob Stacks from Richmond, Virginia. The ’90s—A Love Story: Live Musical Tribute to Hip-Hop/R&B

# CIAA Old-School Skate Party

Cameo CI Kickoff Celebration
This event is for the experienced partygoer who’s ready to create memorable experiences. Party in front of one of the best views of uptown, with music by DJ Paradime. Thursday Night Hook-Up

CI Takeover: Welcome to Charlotte

"We Are Prodigal Son" Happy Hour and Fundraiser
Come out to this networking event and learn more about The Prodigal Son Foundation, whose mission is to empower, educate, and engage youth in North Carolina. VSU Orange & Blue Takeover

Heaven @ Blue Part 7
It’s one of the biggest Thursday-night parties each year, providing a great atmosphere, music by DJ 06, and a live performance by The Let IT Flow Band (band goes on at 11 p.m.). The Jump Off
Get a jump on your weekend in style at this posh restaurant and lounge. Music by DJ Biggs from D.C. and DJ Lonnie B of the Heavy Hitters. The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Rho Psi Omega Chapter have put on this party each year that the tournament has been in Charlotte. Expect a full house.
