Nicholas Tarnate, former executive chef of the recently closed Aix en Provence, will step into the role of executive chef at Bar Marcel. The restaurant, which opened in SouthPark in April, offers a mix of small plates, house-made pastas, and larger entrees inspired by Italian, French, and Spanish cuisines.

Bar Marcel is the tenth restaurant for Stacey and Kevin Jennings, the husband-and-wife team behind Vivace and Civetta. Tarnate takes over for chef Josh Oakley, who helped launch Bar Marcel and is now moving into the culinary director role with Urban Food Group.

Bar Marcel is known primarily for its Italian fare, but Tarnate will put his stamp on the menu with the French techniques he picked up after three years at Aix en Provence. He also plans to incorporate flavors from Morocco, Tunisia, and Spain.

Bar Marcel is open for lunch Monday through Saturday and dinner seven nights a week. Look for Tarnate to launch brunch in the coming weeks.
