On Saturday night, the city’s own Charlotte Checkers won the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup, defeating the Chicago Wolves in Game 5. A free public celebration is now planned for Monday night at 7 p.m. at Bojangles’ Coliseum. With admission and parking free, the celebration includes remarks from the team, photo opportunities with the Calder Cup itself, an autograph session, and more. The team says that doors open at 6:30 p.m., and season ticket holders can enter earlier, at 6 p.m.

This current incarnation of the Charlotte Checkers has been an AHL team only since 2010. They are the top minor league affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes, who played in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals in May.
