Sure, a trip through NoDa or South End will reveal many of Charlotte's excellent art galleries. But unlike many major metropolitan areas, Charlotte has been light on large-scale, juried fine-art shows.
Hotworks, the producers of some of the best art shows in the Midwest, aims to change that. This month it's setting up shop here with a two-day event featuring works and presentations from 110 of the nation’s finest artists, including some locals such as south Charlotte woodworker Brian Sykes.
"I’m excited for friends and neighbors to see my work," Sykes says. "They can always come by my shop, but everything is usually packed up to travel from show to show."
