Susan Ringwald, a student at UNC Charlotte studying special education, and Chris Goodwin, a real estate broker and investor for Re/Max Lars Group, have known each other since they were 5 years old.
“Our families are so happy,” Susan says. “And we know each other really well, so there are no secrets.”
Their sunset ceremony took place under a pecan tree with an aisle shimmering with lanterns. A mantel altarpiece from Creative Solutions was adorned with antique milk-glass vases overflowing with baby’s breath and dusty miller arrangements by Party Blooms. Travis Dry, Chris’s fraternity brother, returned from Kuwait to officiate the wedding. He and the couple planned the ceremony and hand-written vows together through email. Too choked up to speak, Chris had to recite his vows after Susan.
Queen City Catering Company served comfort food, including macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, and barbecue presented in martini glasses. Guests lined up for a mashed-potato bar, strawberry salad, pineapple skewers, and sauteed vegetables. Instead of a traditional cake, the Goodwins opted for a chocolate-chip-cookie-ice-cream-sandwich bar and a cheesecake baked by the bride’s mom. The bride and groom rode the Ragin’ Uptown Tux Bus to the after-party in Ballantyne and then headed to Bryson City for a mountain honeymoon.
