Baja Romance

Elite luxury and indulgent relaxation await you at the very tip of Mexico's western coast

Right at the tip of the Baja Peninsula lies a twelve-mile stretch of coastline overlooking the Sea of Cortez. At one end is the buzz and bustle of Cabo San Lucas. At the other is the quiet traditional Mexican town of San Jose del Cabo. From here, you can just see the steeple of a gleaming white mission church upon a hill. That church is the crown jewel and picturesque icon of the intimate and exclusive One&Only Palmilla Resort (oneandonlyresorts.com/palmilla). Frequented by movie stars and celebrities since the 1950s when it was a private fifteen-bedroom hideaway for the son of the president of Mexico, this resort is the antidote to the onesize-fits-all, all-inclusive Mexican honeymoon. Instead, every aspect of your experience is customized — right down to the aromatherapy scent used for your turndown service, the colors of thread in your complimentary sewing kit (matched to the clothes you packed), and the picture on your bedside table (honeymooners will be asked in advance for a snapshot, which will be framed and waiting for you). The only problem you'll have upon arriving home will be readjusting to life without a personal butler on call twenty-four hours a day.

By Day

Enjoy your breakfast with an unrestricted view of the Sea of Cortez by dining at Agua, where you can also scope out the best lounge chairs by the adjacent infinity-edge pool while you sip your coffee.

If you've got energy to burn, play a round at the Jack Nicklaus signature course at the Palmilla Golf Club (rated in the top 100 in the world). Sign up for one-on-one yoga or Pilates classes or be coached in transformational breath-
ing work at the Wellness Center. You can also explore the resort property via tricycle.

Before you head to the pool, prepare your skin to soak up those Mexican rays with the Sun Ritual Treatment (120 minutes, $300 per person). After a cleansing footbath, you'll be exfoliated from head to toe with a scrub customized to your desired level of coarseness. Then you're escorted to a private shower to rinse off before beginning a moisture-infusing full-body massage.

Lounge in the afternoon sun by the Vista pool, where your sunscreen will be kept cool by butlers who are standing by and complimentary foot rubs are offered by roaming spa therapists. Prefer to cool off in the ocean? You're in luck. Palmilla is home to one of the only swimmable stretches of beach in Los Cabos.

By Night

Watch the resort transform as thousands of candles and lanterns are lit throughout the grounds. After you enjoy your in-room cocktail snack (delivered daily by your butler), follow the sound of live world music to the lounge at Suviche
to enjoy the resort's signature ginger margarita, or request the assistance of the sake sommelier to help you choose the perfect Japanese spirit.

For dinner, you'll have to make the impossible choice between two signature Jean-Georges' restaurants: Suviche and Market. At the former, you'll dine alfresco underneath umbrellas lit ethereally from within. The menu of Japanese nigri, sashimi, and inventive rolls incorporates fish native to Mexico in addition to tender salmon, toro, and maguro. The other half of the menu is a selection of bright and flavorful Mexican ceviches made from citrus-marinated seafood. Market offers a modern, formal atmosphere built from warm red and orange tones and a Euro-Asian-influenced menu that features traditional Mexican ingredients in ways they've likely never been used before.

Like to enjoy a private late-night swim after dinner? Then skip the standard rooms and suites and reserve a Pool Casita, which comes complete with its very own mini infinity pool with ocean views and plenty of privacy.

Romance Factor

Take any couples massage to a whole new level of intimacy by adding a thirtyminute Villa Experience ($50) onto your spa reservation. Following your chosen treatment, your spa therapist will draw a warm bubble bath in a freestanding stone tub in the middle of your private spa villa courtyard. You'll also be provided with a tray of hot tea and fresh fruit to enjoy while you soak in the flower-sprinkled suds. After your bath, use the Espa products in your glasswalled shower or just give in to your state of intense relaxation and catch a nap on the king-size lounge bed underneath a thatched-roof canopy.

For a romantic day on the beach, reserve one of three private coves nestled in carved-out sections of the resort's coastal cliff. You'll have your choice of a lounge bed suspended over the crashing waves or a bed set on rockers above the sand so that it sways gently in the breeze. A private butler will be at your beck and call all day to provide food, drinks, sunscreen, audio books, or whatever else your heart desires. ($300 for all-day use, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
