Real Wedding: Leslie & Matt

May 7, 1010 The Point Lake and Golf Club

The Schultzes

Two years after Matt Keener, thirty-three, accidentally met Leslie Goers online (he found her on a social-networking site, thinking she was
an old friend with the same name), he surprised her with a scavenger-hunt proposal, culminating with a fun-filled day at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

But for their nuptials a year later, the Mooresville-based couple chose to wed closer to home, and The Point Lake and Golf Club had the perfect rustic feel, reminiscent of Asheville. “We also loved the view of the lake from the ceremony site,” enthuses Leslie, twenty-seven.
When the time came, eighty guests gathered for a sunset ceremony led by Charlotte minister Patrick Maloy. The bride went sans veil in a Monique Lhuillier gown from New York Bride & Groom, while the groom opted for a J.Crew suit.

At cocktail hour, guests sipped tea and lemonade in mason jars, then took their seats at a giant U-shaped table for a reception featuring Southern specialties including smoked pulled pork, mac ’n’ cheese, and pecan-crusted trout. A three-tier pound cake by The Point’s inhouse pastry chef followed, and the party toasted with milk and cookies in lieu of champagne. Jill Phillips of All the Right Grooves DJed, and come night’s end, loved ones departed with homemade recipe books filled with the couple’s family favorites.
