Why a Mint Museum Membership Isn’t What You Think

Get all kinds of perks you couldn't imagine with this membership.

Forget everything you thought you knew about museum members.

The membership program at The Mint Museum is one-of-a-kind and full of surprising perks. Any Charlottean—a child, millennial, Gen Xer, or boomer—can benefit from a Mint Museum membership. And, no, we’re not just talking about free entry to see the art (though that is one benefit of many).

The Mint revamped their membership program in September 2018, and the new offerings are extremely attractive. See why you’re going to want to jump on this opportunity sooner rather than later.

What to Know About the Mint’s New Membership Program

You may assume a museum membership only gets you basic perks pertinent to art, but that’s where you’d be wrong. The Mint isn’t a regular museum; it’s a cool museum. Check out everything you should know about this unique membership opportunity.

It applies to both campuses

Many people don’t realize that a membership to the Mint gives you the chance to be a member of both the Uptown (500 S. Tryon Street) and Randolph (2730 Randolph Road) locations. That means you receive free general and special exhibition admission to both locations as a member. You also receive member-only invitations to special events and to see exhibitions before the public.

You get to explore other museums in the Southeast

If you thought having access to two Mint locations was great, just wait until you take a vacation in a neighboring state in the Southeast. As a Mint member, you can receive privileges at designated museums that the Museum has partnered with, allowing you to keep your love for art alive even when you’re not in Charlotte.

All the discounts

A Mint membership keeps on giving. Not only do you receive a free subscription to Inspired magazine, but you also get all kinds of discounts on Museum offerings and more. See below for the updated list of discounts for Mint members.

  • 25 percent off programs, classes, and summer camps (some exclusions apply)
  • 10 percent off Museum admission for member guests
  • 10 percent off all purchases at the Museum store
  • 10 percent off at Halcyon and Something Classic Café locations
  • 7 percent discount on all rental items at CE Rental

All these perks, of course, come at a price. Luckily, a price that’s not so high (for those on a budget). Depending on your level of commitment, there is a wide range of member levels you can subscribe to. The lowest starts at $60 a year, which equals just a little over $1 per yoga class—not to mention the countless other benefits you receive for that price. Plus, seniors, teachers, and students receive $15 off any membership level.
