After-Work Events, Live Music, Model Competition, and More

The weather is back to feeling like spring and less like summer (too soon for the heat!), so get out and enjoy these festivities.

Thursday, May 10

Alive After Five (weekly event)
It's the largest weekly after-work party in the city. Enjoy live music this week by Rubberband on the rooftop stage and Skate Rink Jukebox on the courtyard stage. After-Work Mixers at Delta's (Thursday and Friday)

Esperanza Spalding “Radio Music Society” Live

Hip Hop Unplugged Vol. 2: The West Coast Edition
Guests are invited to explore the rich history of hip hop music and culture from its roots in funk, jazz, and soul to its rapid growth on the East Coast and eventual spread to the West Coast. Charlotte-area musicians, artists, poets, fashion designers, and filmmakers will re-imagine classic performances and moments from West Coast hip hop pioneers. Music by DJ Jopedo, and hosted by Bluz. Friday Live at the Factory (weekly event)
This weekly concert series features national bands, and this Friday’s live performance is by Lit with special guest 1000 Horses. Enjoy many of the bars and restaurants surrounding the courtyard, including Bask, Osso, The Saloon, Wet Willie’s, and more. 6-11 p.m. General admission, $5; VIP, $40. Seagram’s Model Calendar Search
Twelve local ladies are vying for this year’s title with three celebrity judges deciding their fate. Hosted by Power 98’s Nolimit Larry, with music by DJ Flemingo. Red Solo Cup Party 2
After the success of the first one, they’re doing it again. Pay $10 and you’ll get unlimited draft beer. 11th Annual International Block Party
This event celebrates the diverse neighborhoods that surround the University City YMCA, and will feature multicultural performances, fitness demonstrations, children’s games, music, health services, and local business vendors. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Free. Rock at the Dock 5
It's the fifth installment of the popular fight series put on by Matt Sredzinski, owner of The Rock MMA in Huntersville. About 2,000 fans are expected, and in addition to a dozen live MMA cage fights, there'll be music by bands and DJs, food and cash bars, strong man demonstrations, babes in bikinis, and more. 6 p.m. $30 and up. Darude’s “Salmiakki Sessions” CD Release Tour

Pure: The All-White Affair
