Avett Bros. Working with Rick Rubin

Concord's The Avett Brothers have signed a recording deal with American/Columbia Records, reports Courtney Devores (a Charlotte mag intern made good) on charlotte.com. Dolph Ramsuer, who owns the local record label that has released all of the Brothers work so far, will remain as manager. But here's the really interesting news: The Avetts are working with Rick Rubin, the Grammy-winning producer who helped break The Beastie Boys and helped revive Johnny Cash's career, on their next album. I'm really curious to hear how Rubin, known lately for his spare arrangements, will affect the Avett's sound. Meanwhile, The Gleam II, a followup to last year's The Gleam, which was a low-key EP, is due out later this summer.
