There are a lot of great social events and parties this weekend, from festivals and live entertainment to nightclub openings and festive Sunday events. Plus, there's the big NASCAR race this weekend. If you can't find something on this list that appeals to you, go back to sleep.

Friday, October 12

Second Friday Art Walk

10th Annual Time Warner Cable BBQ & Blues (Friday and Saturday)
The Southeast’s largest barbecue festival returns for the 10th year, featuring local restaurants such as Mac’s Speed Shop, Sauceman’s, and Dan the Pig Man, along with a great selection of North Carolina craft breweries. There’ll also be live music by Nantucket, Early Ray, Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers, and many more. Plus, there’ll be cooking demos and competitions between more than 90 teams, including an appearance by celebrity Chef Rick Brown. Beautiful Experience (weekly event)
Enjoy live music by the Harvey Cummings Band, playing everything from R&B and jazz to hip hop and pop. Specials include $5 Crown Royal, martinis, and wine, $2 beer, and wings. Mint To Move Cultural Dance Party
It’s an evening of salsa, merengue, bachata, and Afro-Cuban dance featuring DJ Pepito. Light snacks will be served along with a cash bar. Oktoberfest at Prohibition

Label Grand Opening Weekend (Friday and Saturday)
Billed as a mega club, the highly anticipated opening of the newest nightclub at NC Music Factory is here. The large, multi-room venue was designed by world-renowned nightclub architect Francois Frossard, and attendees will be in for an additional treat with the grand opening entertainment lineup. Friday night features Far East Movement, Nina Sky, and DJ Carnage. Saturday features T-Pain and several Charlotte-area DJs: Wiggs N Wonz, DJ Complete, DJ JD, Rob Reeves, and Greg Pappanastos. Saturday’s door proceeds will benefit Amped 4-A-Cure, Inc. to support cancer research, early detection and prevention. 9 p.m. $40 and up. 16th Annual Ciao, Italia! Festival
The Christopher Columbus Italian Club of Charlotte presents this annual festival, featuring all-day music and entertainment, a chef’s corner, wine tastings, authentic Italian cuisine, Italian wine and beer, and a variety of children’s activities. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. $3. Bank of America 500
It’s our annual NASCAR race for the Chase, where 43 of the world’s best racecar drivers will compete in one of the final races of the 2012 Sprint Cup Series, and for many of them it’s their home turf. Come early and enjoy the pre-race activities, including the 10-acre Fan Zone, live music by Nickelodeon’s Victoria Justice and country music superstars Big & Rich, a stunt by world-famous tightrope walker Nik Wallenda, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will also make appearances throughout the day. Whitewater River Jam Fall Finale

The Lake Norman area has a “sing along bar” that promises to entertain.
