Bill Werber dies

He was 100, and he was the oldest living ex-Major Leaguer. He played for the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. He walked in his first at bat, then Babe Ruth drove him in with a home run. Babe Ruth! He also played basketball for Duke. He lived in Charlotte. Lawrence Grayson wrote an excellent profile of Werber for the magazine a few years ago. Read it here. Sports fan or not, it's worth your time.
