A seven-course meal prepared by Charlotte chefs is on the menu as is a spring-themed cooking class and a fundraiser

Events abound this week for the food-curious of Charlotte. Bonterra, The Asbury, and Cocoa Lab at the Ritz are all gearing up for a month of food-focused happenings.

Bonterra: Ever wanted to see a handful of talented Charlotte chefs in one room – all working to make you an amazing meal? Executive Chef Blake Hartwick of Bonterra Dining & Wine Room will be hosting a James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour dinner at Bonterra on May 27 at 6:30 pm. The seven-course dinner prepared by esteemed Charlotte area chefs will generate proceeds for the James Beard Foundation. The lineup includes:

Dogwood Southern Table: Every Monday at Dogwood, Chef Rick Jahr hosts themed dinners featuring four-course tasting menus with beverage pairings.  For May's dinners starting on May 4, individual farms will serve as the theme and will begin with Rowland Row Family Farm, followed by Boy & Girl Farm, and finally, Commonwealth Farms. Each dinner is limited to approximately 15 seats for a more intimate setting.  The cost is $50 and includes food and pairing.  Additionally, on May 2, a craft cocktail class hosted by Barkeep Brian "The Hammer" Lorusso will teach guests how to make three unique cocktail creations. The Asbury: On Wednesday, May 6, The Asbury will host a #FeedingHope dinner and fundraiser to help the New Leaf Foundation, whose mission it is to provide a healthy food source in low-income areas. The Asbury will host the dinner in partnership with Durham's Shane Ingram of Four Square Restaurant and Paul Verica from Waxhaw's Heritage Food & Drink.  Tickets for the five course dinner are $110 and include optional wine pairings for an additional $25. Cocoa Lab: The official cooking class headquarters for Bar Cocoa at The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte, has announced a new Saturday workshop experience featuring hands-on cooking instruction preceded by continental breakfast in the hotel Lobby Lounge. In each upcoming Cocoa Lab session, six students will work alongside one of the chefs of The Ritz-Carlton to learn cooking techniques and prepare menu items featuring chocolate, cocoa, dessert flavors, herbs from the hotel’s rooftop chef’s garden, or Carolina fresh fruits of the season. Students will be able to taste the day’s creations and they will receive complimentary parking, a recipe collection and keepsake apron as part of the $100 class fee. The next Cocoa Lab class on May 2 from 830 am to noon will focus on fresh fruits and herbs. Students will learn to make a lavender panna cotta; lemon rosemary shortbread cookie; fresh fruit tart; and rhubarb upside-down cake.
