Charlotte Magazine Tests Chick-fil-A's New Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Chick-fil-A has introduced its first new sandwich since the Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich launched in 1989. Always looking to be helpful taste testers (read: lovers of free food), some of the editorial staff at Charlotte magazine was thrilled at the chance to check out the new addition to the chain restaurant’s menu today. The sandwich ($2.99) is hand-breaded and then seasoned with peppers, cooked in peanut oil, and served on a toasted bun with two dill pickle chips. Wonder if it’s for you? Here are some spontaneous reactions from veteran eaters:

"Holy hot!"—Lindsay Emeigh, Associate Art Director

"It was wicked spicy. I’m uber-sensitive to spicy things so on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the spiciest I’d rate this at a 7. But it’s still really
good. Good enough that I’d fight the spice to eat it."
—Blake Miller, Senior Editor

"I took a bite, expecting something new and exciting to spice up my morning, but got chicken with a little extra flavoring. I was hoping for a lot more kick."—Julianne Grauel, Intern

"This is my first Chick-Fil-A sandwich in about a decade, which means the memory of what a Chick-Fil-A sandwich has been living in the romanticized land of my memory, and I have to say, I think the Spicy Chicken has blown away the Original. I love the extra kick of spice, and there’s no sauce required. This sandwich stands alone." —Jenn Grabenstetter, Editor of Where Magazine

"Eating the new Spicy Chicken Sandwich was one of those moments that divide the old life from the new. I felt as if I were a phoenix reborn in its flames. Nothing will ever be the same."—Savanna Shuntich, Intern

"It tastes like a regular Chick-Fil-A sandwich, but spicier."—Rick Thurmond, Editor-in-Chief

"Usually fast food "hot" is dumbed down for the masses. Not in this case…I would compare it to your favorite buffalo wings heat-wise."—Chris Edwards, Staff Photographer
