Giving Back

Community Culinary School of Charlotte announces holiday fundraiser

Tis the season of giving, obviously, and one Charlotte organization has dedicated this holiday time to giving back to our community.

Community Culinary School of Charlotte, a private organization, is providing culinary training and job placement services to adults who had had barriers to successful employment. I'm sure everyone can relate to going through tough times where money has been tight — something especially heartbreaking during the holidays and as the weather turns colder.

Students with Community Culinary School of Charlotte participate in a 14-week program where they receive 450 hours of culinary training, including ServSafe Food Safety and Sanitation training, and will graduate with the knowledge necessary to enter the culinary industry. The program is 100% free to the student.

The reason that this program is able to function and remain free to students is with fundraisers like the upcoming Miracle on Distribution Street. The event will be held on Tuesday, December 3, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the school located at 2401-A Distribution Street in South End. There will be a silent auction along with a live auction, a Master Chef style cooking competition put on by the current Class 47 against alumni. The suggested donation for those wishing to attend this event is $25.

So, during this Thanksgiving week and as the holidays draw closer, think of giving a small gift to your community and lending a helping hand that could give a needed boost to the next great Queen City chef.
