Hang with Dad on Father’s Day: List of Events

In honor of Father’s Day, I’m departing from the party scene coverage here on Dusk Till Dawn (no matter how old you get, I’m not sure if it’s ever cool to party with Dad). So here is a list of events taking place this Sunday, June 19 that you might enjoy attending with your father. And, of course, it’s heavy on the sports.
Father’s Day at The Golf Club at Ballantyne
You buy a round of golf and your dad can play for free. Be sure to mention this Father’s Day offer at the time of booking your tee time (call 704-248-4383 for tee times). Also, enjoy a 15 percent discount off any putter and wedge purchases at the golf shop. The Golf Club at Ballantyne, The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge, 10000 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy., 704-248-4000, theballantynehotel.com/June2011Events.cfm.
Father’s Day at NASCAR Hall of Fame
Celebrate Father’s Day by experiencing NASCAR through innovative exhibits. All dads will receive a free 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame Yearbook with the purchase of admission. Plus, there will be a special Q&A and autograph session with father-and-son former NASCAR drivers Ned and Glenn Jarrett from 1-3 p.m. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission: adults, $19.95; seniors ages sixty and older, military, $17.95; children ages five to twelve, $12.95. NASCAR Hall of Fame, 400 E. Martin Luther King Blvd., 704-654-4400, nascarhall.com.
Charlotte Knights Home Game
Watch the Charlotte Knights take on the Syracuse Chiefs in this afternoon game. And even better, after the game play catch with your dad on the field and receive giveaways. The big prize is a Weber grill. First pitch at 2:15 p.m. $8-$14. Charlotte Knights Stadium, 2280 Deerfield Dr., Fort Mill, SC, 704-357-8071, charlotteknights.com.
College World Series Viewing Party at Whiskey Warehouse
If you or your dad are a South Carolina Gamecocks fan like me, you’ll want to come out to this viewing party hosted by the USC Charlotte Gamecock Club to watch South Carolina play Texas A&M (televised on ESPN2) during opening weekend of the College World Series. We are, of course, the defending champions. The game will be shown on multiple TVs with sound. Specials include $2 Bud Lights and half-price appetizers. (By the way, I’m not trying to omit the other Carolina. UNC plays Vanderbilt on Saturday at 2 p.m., televised on ESPN.) Game starts 7 p.m. Free admission. Whiskey Warehouse, 1221 The Plaza, 704-334-7005, whiskeycharlotte.com, charlotte.gamecockclubs.com.
Charlotte Symphony Summer Pops Concert
This outdoor concert series continues, and this Sunday features Albert-George Schram conducting a program themed as “Musical Travels.” Prelude performances at 7 p.m.; concert at 8:15 p.m. $10 for adults; free for children 18 and under. Symphony Park at SouthPark, 4400 Sharon Rd. Charlotte Symphony, 704-972-2000, charlottesymphony.org.
An Evening with Delfeayo Marsalis
Internationally acclaimed trombonist, composer, producer, and 2011 NEA Jazz Masters Award recipient Delfeayo Marsalis brings the “swing” to Charlotte for a one-night jazz concert. Presented by Jazz Arts Initiative. The JAI All-Star Youth Jazz Ensemble will open. 7:30 p.m. $25 reserved seating; $35 VIP with meet-and-greet with Marsalis following the concert. McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square, 345 North College St., 704-372-1000, carolinatix.org, thejazzarts.org.
