Heist Brewery releasing its first bottle, Barrel-Aged Cataclysm II

Heist Brewery is set to release its first-ever bottle, and has selected (at least in my mind) one of the best local beers in the last year to do so. I’m talking about the much-ballyhooed Cataclysm II, which Heist has barrel-aged over the last several months and then bottled.
Barrel-aged Cataclysm II will be available in 500 mL bottles this Saturday at the brewery. Bottles will be $15 each, with a limit of 4 per person. You’ll also be able to enjoy BA Cataclysm II on draft, as Heist will be serving 10-ounce pours for $10 each, in which you’ll also receive a special snifter with purchase.
Heist’s Cataclysm Russian Imperial Stout series has been top notch, with Cataclysm I first making an appearance at the 2015 Queen City Brewers Festival, followed by Cataclysm II popping up at different times of the year at Heist, Salud Beer Shop and most recently, Charlotte Oktoberfest two months ago. I’ve had a chance to try it at almost all of these spots and have been thoroughly impressed each time. When drinking, you'll get warm notes of a solid dark chocolate and coffee balance. To put it simply, Heist has knocked it out of the park, and then some, with this beer.
The Cataclysm II version that will be released Saturday has been aged in a 50-50 blend of Elijah Craig 12-Year and Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey barrels for 9 months. It was then transferred to bottles, where it has continued to age over the last 3 months. Barrel-aged Cataclysm II comes in at a robust 13.7 percent ABV.
Heist will open its doors for the release on Saturday at 9 a.m.
