WHO With twenty-seven years of interior design experience, Mary Tobias Miller knew exactly what she wanted when she opened her first home boutique in Charlotte in May. "I was trying to find things I had a hard time finding as a designer," says Miller, whose South End-based shop boasts items such as antique French furnishings and contemporary glass lamps.

SPEND From an elegant desk with limed oak finish ($500) to a weathered iron antique lamp with a rectangular shade ($495), Miller made it easy to update your home without emptying your wallet. Miller also offers design services by appointment.
