Loco Lime Mexican Inspired Grill

The Loco Lime, which opened its newest location on Central Avenue (next to Common House) last week, is the kind of place where you can expect to leave full. Very full, in fact.
In true Mexican restaurant fashion, the new spot serves up seasoned chips and chunky tomato-based salsa as soon as you’re seated. Because I have an affection towards cilantro that borders on obsession and this salsa was heavy on the cilantro, I was a fan. In the mood for one more snack before you settle in for the big meal? Order the table side guacamole dip. They’ll prepare it fresh to your liking (chunky or smooth…hot or mild) next to your table as they explain each ingredient.
The menu is pretty extensive with salads, enchiladas, fajitas, and specialty entrees. They’ve also got an entire vegetarian section, which is something often difficult to find in a Mexican restaurant. And even if you’re a meat-loving carnivore, this section is worth a second look. The Veggiechanga ($9) is a 12 inch fried flour tortilla stuffed with sweet plantains, roasted corn relish, portobello mushrooms, and grilled zucchini. It’s topped with your choice of green tomatillo, white queso, or citrus chili red sauce—and it’s quite good. You’ll find the same basic stuffing in the veggie enchiladas, burritos, and quesadillas. It’s a nice mix, with the plantains adding a touch of unexpected sweetness.
There’s also a "Rapido Lunch Menu," for those on a quick break that features lunch versions of taco salads, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas and chimichangas. As I was there for lunch and still haven’t exactly figured out how to incorporate testing alcohol on my lunch break into my job description, I didn’t try any of the margaritas or other icy fruit drinks, but the selection looks extensive—and good. So, I’ll get back to you on that.
Loco Lime is located at 1101 Central Avenue and can be reached at 704-333-7837.
