MS-13 Gang Members Indicted, Arrested

In our crime series last summer, we put a spotlight on gang problems in Charlotte, citing it as one of the major reasons why crime in Charlotte was on the verge of becoming a serious problem. Today, The Charlotte Observer is reporting that a federal grand jury has indicted 26 members of MS-13, one of the most violent and organized gangs operating in the Charlotte area. Twenty of those indicted have been arrested. Finally, some good news for CMPD.

By the way, our series, written by Melissa Hankins, picked up another award recently. It won a Clarion award, which is a national competition. It already won a gold from the Magazine Association of the Southeast, and it's nominated for a Green Eyeshade award from the Society for Professional Journalists.
