New Charlotte in 2012 Logo Tells ‘Story’

Below is the logo you’ve gotten accustomed to seeing represent the Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee for more than a year, since the city was in the midst of its recruitment efforts to land the Democratic National Convention (the Dems selected Charlotte one year ago yesterday).

Below is the host committee’s new logo, released today.

After issuing a request for proposals for design firms in December, the Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee has begun working with two local creative agencies, Wray Ward and K2Forma, to help tell Charlotte’s story. The new logo is one result of their efforts.

Wray Ward is a thirty-five-year-old, full-service creative marketing communications firm with more than sixty-five employees, making it one of the largest creative firms in the Southeast. And while K2Forma is a five-year-old graphic design agency with a handful of employees, it already touts Belk, BCBG, Caterpillar Inc., Polo Ralph Lauren, and Rent-A-Center among its major clients. Both Wray Ward and K2Forma are women-owned companies.

Tracy Russ, chief marketing officer for the host committee, is overseeing the work of the two teams as they create banners, signs, brochures, and various electronic outreach tools to promote Charlotte in 2012’s message.

The new logo, which clearly showcases the uptown skyline, also includes text within the outline of the buildings. It reads as follows:

“Charlotte is a beautiful, clean city with a high quality of life where you’ll find both the expected comforts of southern hospitality and exciting evidence of a forward-thinking, can-do Southern culture. The Charlotte region boasts the amenities and economic opportunities of a major urban center for both large corporations and aspiring entrepreneurs, but retains the friendly culture of a close-knit community where people, organizations and institutions work together to build its future. These public-private partnerships in Charlotte have moved this community toward new opportunities in truly unique and remarkable ways.”
