Observer shedding jobs again

The newsroom whispers turned out to be true: Observer publisher Ann Caulkins told the staff this morning that the paper would cut 9% of its staff through buyouts and, if necessary, layoffs. According to Caulkins's memo, buyouts will be offered to all regular, fulltime employees who have been on staff more than a year. Interesting, the article on the paper's website says parent company McClatchy is evaluating all real estate holdings, too, something we speculated on in the current issue of the mag.
