OK, So We DID Profile the Right Team

The December issue featured a story on the Davidson men's basketball team. On January 10, I wrote a post on this blog positing that perhaps we had profiled the wrong team, because UNCC was having a better season. I take it back.

Since that post, all Davidson has done is win sixteen straight games. The team finished the regular season with a 20-0 conference record, which is astounding, and today landed at number 25 in the AP poll. Guard Stephen Curry is averaging twenty-five points per game and is an All-American candidate, and point guard Jason Richards leads the country in assists. The Wildcats have won 19 games in a row, the longest winning streak in the country. Davidson will still likely have to win the Southern Conference tournament this coming weekend to make the NCAA field, but if it can do so, is looking at a potential 13 or 12 seed. Meanwhile, the Forty-niners have limped to a 16-12 record and will be lucky to make the NIT field. And Davidson's early loss to the Niners goes down as perhaps the team's worst loss of the season.
