OMB's Award-Winning Fat Boy Set for Barrel-Aged Release

This past September, Olde Mecklenburg’s Fat Boy Baltic Porter received the highest of honors overseas, capturing a gold medal at the 2017 European Beer Star competition. Now, the brewery is set to continue the celebration with the annual release of the barrel-aged version of the award-winning beer.

Olde Meck is opening early at 9 a.m. this Saturday for its BA Fat Boy breakfast at the brahaus. For this year’s version, OMB aged Fat Boy for two-and-a-half months in local barrels from neighbor Great Wagon Road distillery. That whiskey, Quinn’s, also won a bronze medal last year at the San Francisco World Spirits competition.

As in years past, there will be a buffet breakfast that includes pancakes and french toast with special barrel-aged Fat Boy syrup, bacon, eggs, fruit, assorted pastries and sausage. Both versions of Fat Boy will be available on draft along with other Olde Mecklenburg beers, and there will also be coffee and juice as well.

Tickets are required to be purchased in advance for this event (none will be sold the day of at the the door. There are two options for tickets. For $40, you will receive admission to the buffet breakfast, one pour of barrel-aged Fat Boy, a commemorative event glass and one 22-ounce bottle of BA Fat Boy. For $10 more, you get everything previously mentioned along with another 22-ounce bottle of barrel-aged Fat Boy (if you’re not good at math, this is the way better deal).
