Paper & Ink
I was given the opportunity to make some pictures and video inside the pressroom at The Charlotte Observer. The newspaper recently purchased the Dow Jones printing plant in the University-area and plans to move production there. This could be the last look at this historical operation in its current footprint.
While the city sleeps, the pressroom grinds thousands of feet of paper into the daily news. It’s nearly a religious experience watching the print appear. The smell of ink is overwhelming while the sound of the motor drives is deafening. My hope was to pay homage to Charlotte's shrine to print journalism at the end of an era as it starts anew.
