Park Road Location of Duckworth’s Closes

Matt McKenzie

The Park Road location of Duckworth’s has closed. When reached for comment, a staff member told the magazine that the restaurant was concentrating on a new location at Rea Farms, which is reportedly opening today.

This Duckworth’s, near the string of bars and eateries on Montford Drive, had been in operation since 2010; the original River Highway spot in Mooresville opened in 2004. Today’s news follows a closure last year for a remodel. As Duckworth’s Kitchen & Taphouse, it had served as a test kitchen for new menu items to be used in the restaurant’s other locations. Its new Rea Farms spot, located at 9805-D Sandy Rock Place, is 7,000 square feet with a 3,800-square-foot patio.

UPDATE: A statement sent from Rob Duckworth, following our story being posted:

On Sunday, July 7, we closed our doors for the last time at Duckworth’s at Park Road. This location was and will remain an important chapter in the story of our business, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished here over the years. After the success of our original location in Mooresville that opened in 2004, we opened Park Road five years later without knowing how quickly we would outgrow the small kitchen, as our menu expanded from cheesesteaks and wings to pizzas, burgers and more.

In April 2018, we decided to transform the Park Road space and reopen as Duckworth’s Kitchen, which became our “test kitchen” for anything new to Duckworth‘s. From food to plateware and cocktails to uniforms, this is where we tested new things before deciding whether or not to incorporate them into our other locations. After about a year of testing, I am happy to say that Duckworth’s Kitchen served us well and fulfilled its purpose. So, as they say: when one door closes, another one opens.

In fact, we’re excited to announce the opening of our newest Duckworth’s location at Rea Farms (the largest one yet), which actually just opened today. Here, we are offering all of the successful items from the Park Road test kitchen—create-your-own salads, create-your-own burgers, hand-breaded chicken tenders and more—along with all of our crowd-favorites like pizzas, ribs, steaks, wings and Phillies. We are also extremely excited for our brand-new restaurant concept, Link & Pin, opening later this year in South End. Construction there is well underway, as we speak.

Our organization is working with our team members of Duckworth’s Park Road to offer them continuous employment at one of our several other area locations. Thank you to all of our extraordinary staff, our loyal customers and everyone who supported us in the Park Road/Montford community throughout the years. I know we couldn’t have come this far without you. We look forward to serving our guests at another neighborhood Duckworth’s location soon, where we’ll continue to redefine the casual dining experience, one tap, one plate and one pint at a time.
