Real Wedding: Ellie and Matt at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

Five years ago, two Davidson College students got to know one another when their formal dates went off together and they were both stood up. Ellie and Matt were engaged by 2014. Knowing marriage was a leap of faith, they had “The Greater Fool” inscribed on their wedding rings, a concept from TV show “The Newsroom” describing a person with the perfect blend of self-delusion and ego to believe he or she can succeed where others have failed. The couple’s optimism held strong at their elegant, black-tie garden affair when there was a downpour just 20 minutes before the ceremony. Nuptials were moved to the enchanting greenhouse-style reception tent lined with 6,000 twinkle lights, and fate agreed. Right as Ellie and Matt said their vows, the sun emerged, and the two greater fools grinned down the aisle as their recessional song resounded. It was “Here Comes the Sun,” by The Beatles.
