Real Wedding: Jessica & Larry
December 3, 2010 Roof with a View

Larry Tran fell for the girl next door. Jessica McDougall lived in the home adjacent to his. And just a year after her sister, who was engaged to Larry’s roommate, introduced them, Larry proposed. For the winter wedding festivities, the couple picked Roof With a View for its floor-to-ceiling views of the city. The couple then looked to their own talents, and those of their friends, for the rest of the details. Jessica created the invites, while her mother handpicked the bouquet. Also on the vendor list: Jessica’s friend, Angela Cox, as the photographer; the couple’s friends, Matrimony, as the musicians; and Larry’s friend as the officiant.
For the ceremony at Roof With a View, Jessica wore a strapless J.Crew gown, spiced up with gray boots. In place of bouquets, her bridesmaids carried homemade lanterns. The 225-person party then moved to the reception, which had a spread that included chicken cordon bleu and sweet tea by Occasions Catering. To keep with the warm, rustic vibe, tables were topped with evergreen branches and lanterns. “I wanted everything to have the feel of a really warm sweater,” says the bride. And while the Charlotte skyline was picturesque, the personal touches kept it cozy.
